Amla (Gooseberry) has lots of health benefits, it’s a seasonal fruit and we get best quality Amla just for few months (mostly January and February) during winter. It’s very common to get cold, cough and viral infection during winter, rainy season and Amla helps to deal with such cases by boosting our immunity.
Amla is packed with vitamin and nutrients. It is rich source of Vitamin C and a very important ingredient in Traditional Indian Ayurvedic Medicines. Amla is also used in Chyawanprash (an ayurvedic dietary supplement). People store it in different forms like Amla Supari (Amla salted candy), Amla powder, Amla juice, Sweet Amla Candy, Amla Murabba and many more as it is season based fruit and we don’t get fresh gooseberry all around the year.

Ingredients for Amla Murabba
Cooking Method for Amla Murabba Recipe
Rinse Amla well.
Take a large bowl, add enough water to it and mix chuna in the water.
Dip amla in the water and keep it aside for 15 minutes. Chuna helps to look amla murabba transparent.
After 15 minutes, take out the amla and rinse with fresh water. Prick amla with the help of a fork. This will make sure sugar syrup is completely soaked into Amla.
Now place amla in steamer and steam it on a medium to high flame for 10 to 12 minutes (or until they turn soft).
Simultaneously add sugar, water to the large vessel or kadhai and prepare sugar syrup on medium flame.
Sugar has dissolved, allow it to boil a bit.
Amla has also become tender. When Amla is tender, you can allow it to cool down for some time and cut into pieces.Amla has natural lines on it which can be helpful to cut the pieces in same shape. But, I like to cook them as a whole because Amla Murabba looks pretty when we don't play with its original shape 😜.
Now transfer steamed amla to the sugar syrup.
Cook amla in the sugar syrup on medium flame until sugar syrup thickens and amla is nicely cooked.
Amla murabba is ready. Allow it to cool down, and transfer to air tight glass jar and store it. Do you see those nice lines visible on Amla? Those lines appear after Amla is cooked nicely and it can split easily.
Amla Murabba looks and tastes great. Prepare and store this great health benefits packed Amla Murabba in your home.
