Brussels Sprouts with Peas recipe is a healthy choice to include in our meals and doesn’t take much time to cook. Brussels Sprouts are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They are almost nil in fat, contain more water and less carbohydrates. So as you see, it is packed with all the health benefits.
Brussels Sprouts has resemblance in looks with cabbage and they are very tiny in size, smaller than lemon or lime. So may be we can call them as mini cabbage. Brussels Sprouts is grown largely in Europe near Brussels, Belgium. So name for this must have been derived from Brussels.
When I purchased Brussels Sprouts for the first time, I didn’t read its name. By the looks, I just thought it might be mini cabbage and it was an accidental purchase. Later I was disappointed because it was not a “mini” cabbage as I thought so and I bought something else. I wasn’t sure what to do with Brussels Sprouts but it occupied space in my fridge. But, because of the rule “NO WASTAGE OF FOOD” I decided to prepare something with Brussels sprouts. My first experiment with Brussels Sprouts was to prepare it with Rice and later it got a reserved seat in my veggies selection.
Brussels Sprouts are quite strong in smell and taste, compared to regular cabbage. So I prefer adding some other things to it whether it’s rice, peas or anything which can give a good combination to it. This Brussels Sprouts and Peas recipe is quite simple and easy to cook with minimum ingredients. I have used Olive oil for this recipe, because it gives nice taste and texture to the recipe. You can use any normal cooking oil as well.
Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Peas recipe looks pretty and more importantly it is Vegan Friendly recipe. To maintain its nice green colour I chose not to add spices, garam masala or red chilli powder etc. and just used crushed black pepper powder. I love to add Black pepper to the recipes for nice aroma. Let’s see the cooking method for this simple recipe.

Cooking method for Brussels Sprouts with Peas Recipe
Rinse Brussels sprouts, green peas and chilies. Finely chop green chilies and cut Brussels sprout just into two halves.Brussels sprouts comes in peeled and unpeeled packages. If you purchase unpeeled Brussels sprouts then remember to remove some outer leaves of Brussels sprouts.
Heat a non-stick pan. Add 1/2 tablespoon oil to pan and once oil is hot, add frozen peas to oil. Stir fry peas for 2 minutes and take out.
Now, add remaining oil to the pan and add Brussels sprouts to it. Cook it on a medium flame for about 4 to 5 minutes until they turn crisp and golden.
After 5 minutes, flip over all Brussels sprouts with the help of knife to get nice golden / roasted texture. Now cook for another 3 to 4 minutes similarly so it becomes crisp on other side too.
Add green chilies, black pepper and salt. Mix well, close the lid and cook for just 2 to 3 minutes.
Finally add sautéed peas to the Brussels sprouts, mix well.
Close the lid and cook for another 2 minutes.
